In the early 80s in Newcastle-upon-Tyne there were a few zines, but the one that was head and shoulders the best was undoubtedly the wonderfully titled Eccentric Sleeve Notes.
Edited by two lads who between them attended every gig I did, they interviewed both up and coming acts and some of the biggest bands. Such was the reputation of the magazine that Edwyn Collins, Feargal Sharkey etc. would happily grant them interviews.
When meeting people and them discovering I lived in Newcastle they’d often ask about the magazine.
