Enjoyed his solo gigs in the Bacchus Wine Bar and The Lamb in Rustington many years ago. He even played at Sue and Rich’s for Rich’s 30th, and we had a great time.
Sadly missed but fondly remembered.

Jez always made an ordinary night monumental for everyone, especially atE.R.F.C. Will never sink in that he`s really gone.Ican`t listen to “weather with you” without shedding a tear! But i`m sure Jez had a tear in his eye everytime i grabbed the mike for “Night boat to Cairo”. “WE ARE THE MODS WE ARE THE MODS WE ARE WE ARE . . . . .
i saw the lambrettas at The Coach house in Huddersfield (quite a number of years ago) me and my friends got to talk to the band after the gig. i managed to get Jez’s autograph – there wasnt any paper available so he signed the back of a photograph (one of those done in the booth at woolies) and he seemed like such a nice man. i was sorry to hear of his death and my sincere sympathy goes out to his family.
Our deepest sympathies to Jez Bird’s family. Most of my mates and myself grew up on The Lambrettas’ music. I hadn’t listened to them for a while and whilst looking them up on the internet heard the shocking news.

Hi lyn & fin (ex swan Pulborough) thank you jez for the really good times with us at the swan! XX
Just seen an old t.o.t.p rerun and theres poision ivy,,,, the record took me back right away,,,, looked up on net to see what they all up to,,,, and end up here… very sad.. way to young a talent to go,,,, and by all accounts a top bloke,,,, sad,
…Was just looking for my old Lewes Priory classmate on the social networks and found this. Very sad, he was such a lovely guy 🙁
Jez and I wrote many songs together in the late 1990s and he was a wonderful, humorous man. We had great fun and many laughs. We lost touch when I had to move away, and I’m so shocked to discover many years later that he’s no longer with us. What a loss to music and his family. All the best to you Fiona – I hope you and the kids are ok. Ruth x
My son Nathan and I first met jez at his nights in a bar in worthing, tremendous bloke, he would give Nathan his guitar and let him play during the breaks. He did a party at my home and also my brother’s wedding, brilliant nights, such a nice talented fella, still miss him terribly, RIP mate
Just been listening to your classic poison ivy song, and bringing back so many happy memories of growing up with you and your music!!can still remember you as one of my Dixon’s of Lewes petrol pump boys.the years never changed you ,met at many local gigs, and you always sought me out and embarrassed with and my next song is to my old friend marcus.moved to Norway in 2000 and rather lost track of you, heard the sad news and thought and felt so much for Fiona and family ,your memories will live on forever, a nicer guy will you never meet !!!!!
Jez, thanks for the music, even though time passes, you will always be remembered … Listening to “living for today” without being able to sleep … my tribute wherever you are …
I’m so gutted he passed his music got me through some tough times thanks jez r.I.p
A late response I know but 55 years old and still dress more or less the same as back in 1980. Remember daaance picture disc and the two stroke label take on two tone. Poison ivy ska tune which went down well with rudie and skin cousins in the day on the dance floor. Remember aggro with punky oi skins but always an affinity with trad non racist skins and rudies as we were all parts of the same cultural family. Peace.
