Eccentric Sleeve Notes Zine/Site

In the early 80s in Newcastle-upon-Tyne there were a few zines, but the one that was head and shoulders the best was undoubtedly the wonderfully titled Eccentric Sleeve Notes.

Edited by two lads who between them attended every gig I did, they interviewed both up and coming acts and some of the biggest bands. Such was the reputation of the magazine that Edwyn Collins, Feargal Sharkey etc. would happily grant them interviews.

When meeting people and them discovering I lived in Newcastle they’d often ask about the magazine.

Like all good things it came to an end in late 1984 after 8 issues. Steve Joyce went on to start up the Woosh! fanzine and club before starting the Lust label and Simon moved away.

A friend tipped me off about a site dedicated to the zine and it’s excellent, brought back a lot of wonderful memories. Pay it a visit.
