Now often referred to as “The Big Music” after a Waterboys song, this category covers all those bands that were around in the 1980s but which were neither Pop, Pop-Punk or Indie.
Typically signed to major labels, the budget they had meant they were able to take full advantage of technological improvements to create a big, highly-polished, commercial sound, perfect for radio and Top Of The Pops. Prominent bands were: U2, The Cure, Echo & The Bunnymen, and Big Country
